The City of South Lake Tahoe is honoring the life and work of Thomas F. Regan with a memorial beach at South Lake Tahoe. The beach, which will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., will feature a memorial garden, a sculpture dedicated to Regan and information about his life and work.

Thomas F. Regan was born in Carson City, Nevada in 1913. He attended the University of California, Berkeley, before beginning his career as an artist and teacher in San Francisco. In 1951, he co-founded the artists’ collective Arts & Crafts in San Francisco, which later became known as Red Gate Arts Center. Regan was also a prolific art photographer, publishing several books of his work.

In 1972, Regan moved to South Lake Tahoe to become the director of the Lakeside Cultural Center, a position he held until his death in 2002. During his time in South Lake Tahoe, Regan helped revitalize the city’s arts scene and contributed significantly to the community’s cultural heritage. His memorial beach at South Lake Tahoe will serve as a permanent tribute to his life and legacy.
